Fall 2011
Went to the pumpkin patch on Sunday. Shane had a wonderful time running around and playing with the scarecrows and pumpkins. I had a great time running around after him!

September 2011
Seems like time goes by so fast it's hard to memorialize it. The Labor Day weekend was a welcome break in the monotony of life, but I felt like I needed a break when it was over! That Friday I had dinner with a neighbor and her friends at the three pigs in Hillcrest,
which was delicious! It was nice to enjoy a Friday night with good food and great conversation. Got a mani-pedi with my mom on Saturday, and then enjoyed a BBQ at the Bridges house on Sunday. Best part of it was spending time with my nephew!
On the gloomy Labor Day, I went to the beach with Carol and her daughter. It felt good to be coastal for the holiday!
The following week was so full, that my calendar didn't look like mine at all! I had lunch with my department in honor of my boss' 20 year anniversary and dinner with Carolyn on Wednesday, survived the power outage on Thursday, and then babysat for my nephew on Friday! Went shopping starting at 9am on Saturday with my mom, had lunch at Cheesecake Factory, then dinner at Souplantation with the Bridges! On Sunday it was girls day out and we went to the Farmer's Market
and then we looked at model homes. Not that any of us are buying, it's just fun to pretend :) Hopefully the rest of September is just as fun and full as the beginning was.

New York 2012
I spent four and a half days in New York last week. Seems likes I couldn't have timed it any better, since a few days after I left the city shut down in preparation for Hurricane Irene. I should have known something bad was coming when I felt the earthquake in the airport minutes before boarding. I'm so glad I didn't know that earthquakes centered in Virgina could be felt in the city, or I would not have been willing to ride the subway! I guess the world is changing, if New York can be shaken by quakes! Thankfully Hurricane Irene was downgraded to a Tropical Storm before it hit, but it still did some damage.
It's hard to imagine life stopping in NY. I was out in Times Square close to midnight, and it was full of people! Stores were open, people were out, and the weather was perfect. To think of Broadway and the subway shutting down is just so unbelievable, but then again, it happened.
I just hope the rest of 2011 is safe and uneventful!

Summer Picnic 2011
Mom invited us to her company's picnic, and it was a lot of fun! We played with hula hoops, got airbrushed tattoos, ate yummy food, and played with the sand. What more could you ask for?

Reconnecting
I tend to shy away from social networking sites, and even though I may have an account or two, I usually only use it to view my friends' pages, not to update my own. I find that opening my life to strangers a very scary thought. On the other hand, I can't imagine why a stranger would be interested in another stranger's life, without the intent of making a real connection. I see the value in the sites, because it allows people to reconnect. Friends from across the country, or even across the world can keep in touch and feel like they're still a part of the other person's life.
Last week a friend I haven't seen or heard from in over eight years contacted me through LinkedIn. I've searched for her in most other avenues, but didn't think to try to that site. I'm so glad she found me. It is great when you can catch up with someone you haven't seen in years, as if it's only been days. That's a sign of true friendship if you ask me.
She's is doing well, and has a beautiful family. They have two daughters now. I babysat for her oldest, who is ten years old now! Gosh, time really flies. Hopefully it won't be that long the next time I see her.
